  • Transition, et al. v. Austin, et al., United States District Court, Richmond, Virginia, January 23, 2002. Civil RICO action and state fraud claims. Amount of award by jury: $8,569,620.
  • O’Connor v. Tice, 281 Va. 1 (2011) (affirming a malicious prosecution jury verdict for $185,000).
  • Minor v. Bostwick Laboratory, Inc. 669 F.3d 428 (4th , 2012) (reversal and remand of the case back to district court in a published opinion reversing a Rule 12(b)(6) motion to dismiss a FLSA retaliatory discharge claim).
  • Bennett v. R &L Carriers, 744 F.Supp.2d 494 (E.D. Va. 2010) (aff’d June 21, 2012 by 4th Ct. (No. 10-2242) in an unpublished opinion affirming the district court jury verdict of $2.066M. At the time this was believed to be the largest malicious prosecution jury verdict in Virginia.)
  • Ligon v. County of Goochland, 279 Va. 312 (2010) (affirming demurrer as to sovereign immunity under the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act whistleblower claim, which the Virginia General Assembly months later amended to clearly eliminated sovereign immunity)
  • Williams v. Garraghty, 249 Va. 724 (1995) (case of first impression allowing personal damages in a work place defamation claim with a Title VII privilege defense)
  • Garraghty v. Commonwealth of Virginia, 52 F. 3rd 1274 (4th Cir. 1995) (affirming district court ruling on an interlocutory appeal that the law was clearly established that plaintiff’s grievance rights could not be taken away after the fact)
  • Said v. VCU/MCV, 130 F.R.D. 60 (E.D. Va. 1990) (granting plaintiff’s attorney fees as part of costs in a Rule 68 Offer of Judgment in a Title VII action)
